The EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive and the proposal for a revised Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation set out recycling targets for used packaging in order to reduce packaging waste and promote the use of recycled content in new packaging. In particular, the European Commission’s proposal for the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation stipulates that at least 50% of all plastic waste in the EU be recycled by 2025.

Researchers of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee(IIT Roorkee) and Afflatus Gravure Private Limited, Noida, developed environment friendly technology for flexible printing. Institute has transferred the two technologies to a reputed packaging company under a licensed agreement signed in presence of Director IIT Roorkee Prof K K Pant and other officials of company and research team. 

There would be a technology transfer and civic bodies and private entities would be taught the latest methods in plastic reuse.
