Consumption of packaged consumer goods set to double in India

Consumption of packaged consumer goods is set to double in India with the bottom-of-pyramid segment shrinking, younger people coming into the workforce, the divide between rural and urban consumers diminishing and a meteoric rise of the digital workforce, Nestle India chairman Suresh Narayanan said on Friday. Narayanan, who leads India’s largest packaged foods company, said 140 million households are expected to be added to the aspiring and affluent set of consumers by 2030, which is “clear indication” of the growth potential of packaged consumer-facing brands.

New marking requirement for disposable plastic beverage cups

From July 3, 2021, “cups for beverages” that are placed on the market in the EU will be required to bear an informative marking in accordance with the Single-Use Plastics Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/904). This is a specific symbol in a particular shape, size, and color, with text in the language of the country in which the cup is being marketed. Organic Pigment Selection

Organic Pigment Selection for Food Packaging Application

The packaging is an essential tool utilized by the food business operators to differentiate the products from others. Beyond shelf appeal, packaging also provides protection to the products form physical, chemical, and microbiological hazards. Packaging materials can be a source of chemical contamination and may impact food safety and food quality. Among the different components of packaging material, packaging inks play a vital role as they might hamper product and consumer safety. Each packaging ink is a mixture of different chemicals and some of these chemicals might be harmful while holding the potential to migrate to the foodstuff when getting in contact. In terms of risk, the chemicals could be toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, repro-toxic and even endocrine disruptors. Oversize Packaging

Can the Curse of Oversize Packaging Finally be Laid to Rest?

We have all experienced it. The knock on the door, the sizeable parcel left on the step as the driver waves from the gate and leaves. We carry it off before opening it carefully lest we damage the goods inside. So where are they? A bundle of brown paper or inflatable plastic bags fill the box. We pull them out to reveal – a tiny package inside, perhaps a pen or torch, certainly something which could have been packaged much more suitably. Fear not, help is apparently at hand. Companies have woken to the fact that with so many people now trying to recycle and minimise waste, steps need to be taken. And with the UK Office for National Statistics reporting internet purchases rising to 31.3% of total retail sales, the search is on for ways to overcome the problem.

PM raises concern over slow progress on elimination of single use plastic

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday ticked off the environment and forest ministry (MoEFCC) for poor progress in the elimination of single-use plastic while observing that the ministry has not pursued the cause seriously in the past two years. He also asked the railways to fix the responsibility of people for delay in the completion of Sivok-Rangpo rail line in Sikkim and West Bengal even 11 years after it was sanctioned. While chairing the monthly review of key projects and programmes on the PRAGATI platform, Modi asked the MoEFCC to involve NCC, NSS and other youth organisations to create more awareness about eliminating single-use plastic. “The PM said if enough steps had been taken in the past two years, the situation would have been different by now after he went through a presentation highlighting which all states have notified norms banning such items and the timeline to achieve the goal,” said an official.

ISTA vs. ASTM: which one suits your products best?

Many companies looking to guarantee the integrity of their goods during transportation and to optimize their packaging hesitate when it comes to choosing which procedure to use between ISTA vs ASTM to perform their performance tests. Both the ASTM standards and the ISTA standards are recognized standards that can be used to test packaged products during the distribution cycle. The goal when applying them is to find out the effect caused by the contingencies of each product distribution cycle, with the purpose of developing a configuration that provides safety to product and package. The big question is, which method is most suitable? When choosing between ISTA vs ASTM, the key is identifying the specific needs of the product to be transported and the distribution route that it will follow. While a packaging testing lab can provide this information, we will list the most essential.

GME 30.40 neck finish

BERICAP tethered solution available for the GME 30.40 neck finish

The International Technical Centre for Bottling and Related Packaging CETIE is in the process of defining a new neck standard for carbonated beverages. The new GME 30.40 neck standard has a thread diameter of only 26mm, reducing the weight of the neck and closure by between 1.4g and 1.7g, depending on the diameter of the neck support ring. The neck standard takes the latest trend of neck support ring diameter reduction – from the former standard of 33mm down to 29mm – into account. In contrast to other 26mm, neck standards GME 30.40 will perform safely under all climatic conditions on bottle sizes of up to 3ltr.
