Colgate and TerraCycle launch new UK Recycling Program

Colgate-Palmolive

Consumer products company Colgate-Palmolive has introduced a free recycling programe in the UK for recycling care products and packaging, in collaboration with recycling business TerraCycle.

The new Colgate® Oral Care Recycling Program allows the consumers to recycle any brand of toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrush outer packaging, toothpaste cartons, toothbrush, and electric and battery toothbrush heads. The sender will get the opportunity to fundraise for charity, school or non-profit of their choice.

The complex mix of materials like flexible and rigid plastics and bristles hasn’t been recyclable via council recycling systems in the UK.

Once TerraCycle collects the materials from the consumers, it separates products by composition, cut them into shreds and then extrudes them into hard plastic pellets to make new recycled products like benches and construction applications, which eliminates the creation of new virgin plastics.

Anyone can join the Oral Care Recycling Program for free by signing into their online account at www.terracycle.co.uk either as a private collector or as a public location which can be track on the TerraCycle map which allows other people in that area to send their products for recycling.

A shipment of more than 200 grams (around 15 pieces of oral care products / packaging) will be rewarded with TerraCycle points by the recycling firm. TerraCycle will reward a100 TerraCycle point donation on a shipment of more than 1kg in size (around 77 pieces of oral care waste). 100 points are worth £1.00.
