The whitepaper on ‘Cycling, Recycling and Upcycling of Plastics,’ prepared by Saravana Kumaran, discusses the importance of plastics in everyday life and throws light on the evolution of plastic.
In India, almost 43% of the plastics manufactured are used for packaging, most of which are single use plastics.
It also presents a glimpse of plastic waste statistics in India and globally. The paper discusses the impact of plastics in marine life, wild life, human health and environment. Plastic waste is directly and indirectly affecting human health because of its impact on the quality of air, water and soil.
The paper also reflects the regulations taken by the Indian Government to overcome the problem of plastic, as well as discusses the role of plastic waste management.
