Centre Notifies Ban on Single-Use Plastic Items from July 1, 2022, Increases Thickness of Polythene Bags to 120 microns

Centre on Thursday notified ban on the use of ‘single-use plastic items from July 1 next year and increased thickness of polythene bags from 50 microns to 120 microns. The thickness clause will, however, be implemented in a staggered manner in two phases, beginning September 30. Currently, polythene bags of less than 50 microns are banned in the country.

NatureWorks Passes Final Authorization Milestone for New Fully Integrated Ingeo PLA Manufacturing Plant in Thailand

MINNETONKA, Minn., August 9, 2021 – Continuing its global manufacturing expansion plan, NatureWorks, the world’s leading manufacturer of low-carbon polylactic acid (PLA) biopolymers made from renewable resources, has obtained final authorization from parent companies, GC International Corporation Company Limited, a subsidiary of PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) and Cargill Incorporated (Cargill), to build a new Ingeo™️ PLA manufacturing complex in Thailand. NatureWorks plans to invest in excess of $600 million to construct the complex, which will include production sites for lactic acid, lactide, and polymer, making it the world’s first PLA facility designed to be fully integrated.

Founded in 2018 by sibling duo Shubham Singh and Himansha Singh, Pune-based Craste purchases crop residues from farmers and recycles them into packaging material and engineered boards. India’s propensity for agriculture means that the country produces a high amount of agricultural waste. A NITI Aayog report quoting MNRE data states that about 500 million tons of agricultural residue is produced every year; NCBI data reveals that about 92 million tons of crop residue are burnt.
